1. What is Giftlet?

Giftlet is a gift list application where you can create wish lists and share them with friends and family. Friends can reserve or purchase items without spoiling the surprise.

2. Information We Collect

When you use Giftlet, we collect:

  • Account information: Username, email address, and password (encrypted)
  • List content: Gift lists you create, including item names, descriptions, URLs, and prices
  • Usage data: How you interact with the app, including list categories, gift types, and activity patterns

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and improve the Giftlet service
  • Enable sharing of lists with friends
  • Display targeted advertising based on your list content and usage patterns (e.g., showing baby product ads if you have a baby shower list)
  • Share relevant, non-identifying data with advertising partners to serve you more relevant ads

4. Advertising

Giftlet displays advertisements to support the service. We may use information about your lists and activity to show you more relevant ads. For example:

  • If you have a wedding list, you may see ads for wedding-related products
  • If you add electronics to your lists, you may see ads for tech products

We may share aggregated or category-level data with advertising partners, but we do not sell your personal information or share your specific list contents with advertisers.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and lists will be permanently deleted. Gift claims you made on others' lists will be anonymised.

6. Minimum Age

You must be at least 13 years old to use Giftlet. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data (visible in your account)
  • Export a copy of your data (via Profile > Export My Data)
  • Delete your account and data (via Profile settings)

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We may use advertising cookies from our ad partners to serve relevant ads.

9. Prohibited Content

You must not use Giftlet to store, share, or link to any of the following:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content depicting the exploitation of minors
  • Content promoting terrorism or violent extremism
  • Illegal drugs, controlled substances, or drug paraphernalia
  • Illegal weapons, firearms, or explosives
  • Stolen goods or items obtained through illegal means
  • Content that infringes intellectual property rights
  • Fraudulent or deceptive content
  • Malware, phishing links, or other malicious content
  • Content that harasses, threatens, or incites violence against individuals or groups
  • Any other content that violates applicable laws

Violations will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to law enforcement authorities.

10. Account Termination

We reserve the right to immediately terminate accounts that:

  • Violate our Prohibited Content policy
  • Are used for spam or abuse
  • Breach any other provision of these terms
  • Are inactive for extended periods (12+ months)

We may preserve and disclose account information and content if required by law or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to comply with legal processes, protect the rights or safety of any person, or prevent illegal activity.

11. Cooperation with Law Enforcement

We will cooperate with law enforcement agencies and comply with valid legal requests. This may include:

  • Preserving account data and content in response to legal requests
  • Disclosing user information pursuant to valid court orders or legal processes
  • Proactively reporting illegal content to relevant authorities, including the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) for child sexual abuse material

Where permitted by law, we will attempt to notify affected users of legal requests unless prohibited from doing so.

12. Limitation of Liability

Giftlet is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to data loss or service interruptions.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Giftlet after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

14. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
